CS2 Gloves Explained

Gloves are the item type that breaks every rule of thumb learned on weapon skins. They have no StatTrak version, no Souvenir version, no rarity ladder, and no trade up path. What they have instead is a wear curve so steep that the same pair can be worth five times more one tier up, and a float range that makes the top tiers genuinely scarce. This guide covers where gloves come from, why wear dominates their price, and how to read a pair before you trade for it.

Where gloves come from

Gloves were added in late 2016 with the Glove Case, as the rare special item in the slot that knives occupy in other cases. Since then, a subset of cases has carried gloves instead of knives in that slot. The drop chance for the slot is the same roughly 0.26 percent as for knives; which pair you get within the slot is then random across that case's glove set.

There is no other source. Gloves cannot be produced by a trade up contract, do not drop from Majors, and are never StatTrak. Every pair in existence was unboxed from a case, which is why supply grows only as fast as people open the cases that contain them.

Why wear matters more here

Three properties combine to make float the whole story.

The float range is wide and starts high.Most glove finishes roll between 0.06 and 0.80. The low end is what makes them different: a Factory New pair must sit between 0.06 and 0.07, a sliver of the range, so genuine Factory New gloves are rare in a way Factory New rifles are not. Minimal Wear covers 0.07 to 0.15 and is the tier most "clean" pairs actually live in.

Wear is visible all the time. A rifle skin is a few pixels on the right of the screen. Gloves fill the bottom third of the view in every round. Fraying, dirt and worn leather are on display constantly, so buyers care about them in a way they do not on most weapons.

There is no other axis to price on.With no StatTrak and no meaningful pattern variation on most pairs, wear is the only property that separates two copies. All of the demand for "a nicer one" lands on float.

The practical result is a price curve that looks like this for a popular pair:

The multipliers are illustrative; every pair has its own curve, and the skin pages show the actual wear-to-wear ratio for each glove from daily reference prices. What is consistent is the shape: a cliff between Factory New and Minimal Wear, and a long, gentle slope below Field-Tested.

Within a tier, the float still matters

Because Minimal Wear spans 0.07 to 0.15 and the visible difference across that range is large on gloves, traders price Minimal Wear pairs by the exact float rather than by the tier. A 0.08 pair is priced like a near-Factory New item. A 0.14 pair is priced like a clean Field-Tested one. Two listings that both say "Minimal Wear" can be a multiple apart and both be fairly priced.

The same is true at the top of Field-Tested. A 0.16 pair looks nearly identical to a Minimal Wear one and trades at a premium to the tier average, which is where patient buyers find value. Our float guide covers the general idea; gloves are the item type where it pays off most.

The pairs people ask for

Demand concentrates on a few finishes, which in turn concentrates liquidity. Sport Gloves in Pandora's Box, Vice, Hedge Maze and Superconductor; Specialist Gloves in Crimson Kimono, Fade and Emerald Web; Driver Gloves in King Snake and Crimson Weave; Moto Gloves in Spearmint and POW; Hand Wraps in Cobalt Skulls and Slaughter. These sell within days. Pairs outside the well-known set can be excellent value to wear and slow to sell, which is the familiar trade-off between taste and liquidity.

Are gloves a good hold?

Popular pairs in Minimal Wear and clean Field-Tested have historically been among the more stable items in the economy, for the same reason knives are: supply only grows through unboxing, and demand is broad. The risk is the same as with any high-value item, which is that a single Valve change can reprice everything at once (see what moves prices). Battle-Scarred pairs of expensive gloves are the most volatile end, because they compete with the cheaper alternatives of wearing a nicer pair in a worse wear.
